Fruitful Schools is part of a campaign - the Children’s Orchard - to help children, schools and families across the UK to plant fruit trees and to enjoy picking and eating what they grow. It improves the local environment, has all sorts of health and educational benefits and also tastes great. This year we are putting together orchard packs including planting and care guides to help get people started.

Please note also we can help develop your school orchard, visit your school and organise apple days, and work with pupils and teachers to build skills in fruit tree care.  We are happy to come and deliver inset training to teachers as well.

Fruitful Schools inspires the whole school community from infant schools through to Secondary to create school orchards and fruitful lives for pupils and the wider community...  We have experience of developing school orchards and food growing projects for a wide variety of schools - urban and rural - large and small - and including special needs schools. We also have experience of working with clusters of schools. Planting fruit trees has proved a really good way of starting schools growing their own food. It’s simple, practical, is a gift to the future and is fun.

We are keen to encourage parents and schools to help each other and to share information and support with each other. To do this we have developed the idea of “daisy-chaining” where we help the first school to plant a school orchard, on the understanding that they will help the next school, or community group  in the chain to plant their orchard. It’s easy - we help the first school an orchard - on the understanding that you pass the favour on... It’s a case of accepting a gift, learning from us, and then passing on an equivalent gift to the next school. As a social enterprise  we are trying to change the work and create fruitful schools and fruitful lives for all our children. And we can’t do it all ourself with daisy-chains we can unleash the power of fruit for all for ever.
