Over the past few years there has been an explosion in interest in children’s orchards, school orchards, community orchards, apple days, and a resurgence of interest in growing harvesting and eating local food. Orchards are also a great community value and arts, music and culture are all part of our aim.
We constituted Scottish Orchards in January 2009 to give a voice to Orchards in Scotland - and to support the long term maintenance of orchards, encouraging skills and heritage varieties for the future.
Following the Scottish Orchards Gathering in May 2010 we have strengthened the committee, and are keen to development further.
One area where there is a current opportunity is to tap into the Central Scotland Green Network - and we have a call for interested groups to fill out this form and return to us soonest. The aim is get funding for planting a Central Scotland Orchard and running training and networking orchard events.
